Female Police Officer Disarms 2 Armed Robbers In Lagos






Sergeant Mercy John, a female police officer serving at the Provost Office of the Lagos State Police Command in Ikeja, on Tuesday displayed an uncommon courage, when she disarmed two suspected armed robbers in Egbeda area of the state.


Daily Independent gathered that the two robbers had at about 6pm stormed her compound, located at Tawakalitu Close Shasha, Egbeda, Lagos in a motorbike.

According to residents of the area, the robbers had ordered her to handover her handbag containing an undisclosed sum of money, her handset and other valuable items to them.

One of the suspected robbers was said to have brought out a locally made gun, corked it and threatened to shoot the officer.

The Sergeant was said to have gallantly grabbed the neck of the gun and in the ensuring drama that followed, hit the head of the suspect against a nearby wall.

After crashing the suspect’s head on the wall, the two suspects, out of panic were forced to flee the scene of the incident without robbing the police officer.

Kenneth Nwosu, Lagos police image maker, while confirming the incident, said that Kayode Aderanti, the State Police Commissioner, who was full of praises for the female officer, has briefed Suleiman Abba, the Inspector General of Police, who instructed that recommendations for outstanding bravery should be given to the officer.

The recommendations are to encourage other serving police officers to exhibit gallantry, while facing difficult crime situations.
